If you are a Dutch motorsports fan, then the last couple of days have been fabulous. Just ask this Dutch supporter, who along with an entire group of countrymen and women took over many parts of the grand stands and spectator areas at the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain, last Sunday. In her case, it was the inside of Turn 7.
During the 2019 Spanish GP, Nyck de Vries (NED) took first place in the Formula 2 race. Unlike his two previous WEC outings, in which he blew by a bunch of cars on the opening lap of the race, this time around he took his time and when the opportunity came he struck and never looked back. In the picture Nyck (4) is saluting the fans and marshals around the track on his cool down lap.
In the Formula One race, Max Verstappen (NED) was able to make a tremendous start and overtook both Ferrari’s and held them at bay till the finish, and so taking third place behind the Mercedes duo. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Max was also named the “Driver of the Day”. But for him, it was just another day at the office!
And just a few days later, on Tuesday to be exact, the FIA announced that the Formula One race would be returning to Zandvoort Circuit (NED) in 2020, for at least three years.
Like I said, it’s just great to be a Dutch motorsports fan these days!
