When compared to the other major motor sports, such as open wheel, rally, or oval, the sport of drag racing can be so weird at times. I can’t imagine in any of the previous mentioned, some kind of race prep that would entail doing what’s essential in pro stock drag racing. Watch the video here.
The clip is of Kurt Johnson breaking in new rear tires needed for competition in front of their shop. Sometimes, just the right quantity of top layer must be removed in order to get the correct roll-out, which is the circumference of a tire when its inflated at the right psi. Other times it’s just done to remove the top layer of rubber. Pro stock cars are notoriously sensitive and achieving maximum performance hinges on getting a great deal of settings just right, of course accounting for weather, track and driving conditions.
We still have Piss’d Off Pete‘s 762 ci 1,600+ hp producing engine (in clip below). Maybe we should lower into a similar type of car used by Kurt Johnson and see how much fun we can extract. Who’s with me?
