MotoGP at Phillip Island is one of those races that everyone loves to watch, let alone visit in person. Especially if your a Jorge Lorenzo or Valentino Rossi fan. The battle for the championship seems to going down to the wire and neither teammate is willing to budge an inch on the track.
At Phillip Island both riders were part of a four-rider lead group but both in the end both lost out. Marquez passed Lorenzo for first place and Iannone passed Rossi for third. Naturally, both know that with so much at stake, neither can afford a mistake… but that is just what happened to Lorenzo in Siberia, when the Spaniard locked the rear just enough to let Marc Through. Rossi, though had the speed, could not fend off a tough charging Iannone who’s known for his close combat skills. With Lorenzo’s second place finish, Rossi’s title lead has been cut to just 11 with just tow rounds of racing to go.
Race top five: 1. Marc Marquez ESP Respol Honda ; 2. Jorge Lorenzo ESP Movistar Yamaha ; 3. Andrea Iannone ITA Ducati ; 4. Valentino Rossi ITA Movistar Yamaha ; 5. Dani Pedrosa ESP Repsol Honda.
Lin Jarvis, Movistar Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director, said when he was asked what his thoughts were on the teammates battling for the championship: “I would expect them to battle it out fairly, but toughly. And I think if one of the riders wins with an unfair move that would be remembered by an awful lot of people for a long, long time”.
The next race is the Shell Malaysia GP at Sepang, 25 October 2015.
