Back in July 2015, NHRA announced plenty of new rule changes to its Pro Stock category after a pretty long time of neglect. And though there have been outspoken Pro Stock drivers, such as Warren “The Professor” Johnson, who have been calling for a change, I am not sure the current owners and drivers applaud this move.
As a Pro Stock car owner and driver I will say this. A change was needed and whether it be limited to the below mentioned rule changes, or there are more on the way, something had to be done. I have been following the category since my father, Eddie, was racing in an early model Malibu SS and the Aruban Maikito Ruiz drove a Chevy Camaro pro stocker called “Bad Banana”. To loose that awesome hood scoop will be hard but change is inevitable. The fact that there are so few teams in NHRA competition at, say Indy, illustrates the pressure the class is under and I applaud the governing body for this. Let’s just hope it is the right move.
